People on My Journey pt. 1

There is seriously no better place to people watch than the airport or bus station. I was making a short trip to Florida for Passover with my family and had some pretty interesting experiences with some strangers.

At the bus stop I arrived early and met a man that works for RTD named Yogi. He was extremely personable and extremely helpful so we got to talking about eachother. Turns out he is from a small town in South Carolina and pretty religious as I would have assumed most people from the south are. He came out to Colorado to do his mission as well as going to North Carolina and South Carolina. There was just something about this man that I found interesting enough to watch.Whenever someone walked into the station he always asked them what he could help them with and sure enough they always had a question. It was as though he could read people’s minds which I found interesting. He even half the time knew where people were going before they even mentioned they were heading there.  He knew all the bus routes and times they left with out fail. He came off as a really hard worker and someone who really cares about the people he interacts with on a day to day basis. The world needs more people with an outlook and ethic like Yogi’s.

The next character at the bus stop was a mentally disabled man named Roman. Apparently he comes to the bus station everyday and through the glass teases the men that work there. It is this on going game they all have together. Roman has a really slow shuffle and huge glasses, I think his name fit him well. After some time teasing the men, Roman slowly shuffles towards me as I sit alone on the bench. He says, “Hello Sweetie.” I say, Hello, how are you?” He doesn’t answer me and gets straight to the point with a, “What’s your name?” I really respect people that get straight to the point. There are two ways people intorduce new information. The first way is more common where people dance around a question and never really get right to what they are meaning to ask or say. These sorts of people I would imagine are people that are too concerned with how they will come off. Then there are people that jump right in and tell you how it is. These kind of people mean well, sometimes offend people, but generally don’t want to waste time. I respect these people more beacuse they realize life is short and we only have so much time with eachother. Anyways, I tell Roman my name and he tells me his and then takes my hand and kisses it and shuffles away. This interaction got me thinking, do humans have an instinct? I mean, it’s not too often that you choose to meet someone and they don’t turn out to be interesting. And also, what purpose do random interactions pose in our lives?
